Origins of AI
Section 1Students are encouraged to explore the question "what is intelligence?" As well as looking at the key people behind AI and the current landscape of AI.
What we do
We provide expert-designed online AI literacy courses. Our content is frequently updated to always reflect the state of the art in the rapidly developing field of AI.
Course Design Principles
The design of our courses ensures they are accessible to all, and extensible for those learners who want to go further.
Every module opens with a clear, engaging question which students should be able to answer by the end.
Every module centres on an activity so that students can apply new knowledge through practical exercises and group discussion. We try to keep reading to a minimum while balancing the need to convey important contextual information.
Each module includes an "Extend" option for those who finish early or would like to go deeper on a topic. All extended materials are optional additions and are not assessed in the final quiz. This content is more conceptually challenging and better suited to older students.
Our core course
Our flagship course offers a comprehensive view of Generative AI today. Students at any level of prior-AI fluency will learn something new.
Curriculum detail
We recommend approximately 10 hours of lesson time for the course. Every section has an end-of-section quiz for formative feedback, and there is a final assessed quiz for certification.
Students are encouraged to explore the question "what is intelligence?" As well as looking at the key people behind AI and the current landscape of AI.
We introduce students to important concepts like hallucination, the context window, and retrieval augmented generation (RAG).
This is the longest section in the course. It focuses on giving students concrete tools and techniques to develop good working practices with AI. This includes ideas like Socratic prompting and working with AI agents, culminating in an engaging app-building exercise.
We introduce students to crucial ideas around cognitive offloading risks, social AI, the cultural impact of AI, and the environmental costs of AI.
Students learn about cognitive labour in the economy, narratives around augmentation and replacement, and what gives humans an edge in the new 'learning economy.'
Testimonial
"Our experience of the course so far has been really positive, both in terms of content and flexibility. The course covers the core concepts around AI in a really engaging, relevant and interactive way for the students, with each module able to be delivered as a stand alone session or as part of a longer sequence of modules. What's been particularly great is that the activities give space for you to spend more or less time on different modules depending on where discussions go and how the class engages with them so the course can be adapted to the needs of the group. I've also learnt a lot about AI myself from delivering the course - hugely helpful for me in my role leading on digital strategy!"

Case study · Spring 2026
In Spring 2026, Charterhouse was the first school to collaborate with AIME in piloting AIME's flagship course, Generative AI in Context. Over the course of the Spring term, 69 Sixth Form students participated in weekly lessons covering the origins of AI and the fundamentals of how the technology works. Students also developed their practical skills with AI, and explored the technology's unfolding cultural, social, environmental, and economic impacts. Lessons were delivered flexibly to fit the school's timetable, and were supervised by Charterhouse's own teaching staff. The cohort successfully completed the full programme and students achieved DEFI certification.

"AIME's AI literacy program is a brilliant resource for teachers and students; covering the key topics in an engaging and practical manner enabling students to optimise the benefits of AI and work collaboratively to enhance their learning while critically engaging to recognise the pitfalls and dangers of inappropriate AI use."

This is our forthcoming CPD course that is entering a closed pilot phase from September with a few select institutions. It is designed for subject specialist teachers, leaders, and heads of department. It goes beyond entry-level AI literacy by focusing on the subject-specific implications of AI across STEM, the humanities, and the creative arts.
This program will be open for full enrolment in the spring of 2027.
